One thing I love about blogging is the community behind it. So when lovely Iman asked me if I wanted to work on a little healthy lifestyle project with her I didn’t have to think twice before agreeing. What we did was coming up with ten simple ways to create a healthier lifestyle. We focused on every aspect of life, not only physical fitness and a healthy diet. Five of these tips and tricks you can find on my blog, the other find she posted on hers.
1. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
This might be the most important one for me. I’ve spent so much time following every advice I found online. But after I read the intuitive eating book I realized that the most important thing actually is listening to what your body is trying to tell you. For example, do I feel so much better now since I don’t eat breakfast anymore. I used to have a huge 500+ kcal breakfast because everyone on Instagram did it. Instead, I’m having morning coffee and a rather early lunch nowadays. I don’t want to encourage you to stop eating breakfast… just don’t do it if you’re not hungry.
2. DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
I already talked about that in my “how to be more self-confident“ post, but this one is really important for your mental health. You need to learn to embrace yourself and your little imperfections and flaws. You are you and not like the others. Do your own thing. You don’t workout for 10 hours a week? That’s fine! You do you man! We’re all unique and so are our needs. Some people might like to do cardio, others don’t. Do what feels good to you and you’ll be much happier and healthier.
3. COOK YOUR OWN FOOD
By cooking and preparing your own food, you can make sure that you know exactly what you’re consuming. Stay away from all the added sugar, preservatives, and all the naughty stuff. This way you’ll eat a lot healthier. If you have no idea how and what to cook I can recommend you the following books: Clean Eating Starter by OCJ, Deliciously Ella Every Day, Vegan for fit. There literally are millions of amazing books and blogs on healthy eating out there.
4. PREPARE SNACKS/LUNCH
We’ve already talked about that in the “how to stay healthy while traveling” post. But I’ll say it all over again. If you take your lunch with you, chances are you’ll eat much more healthy than if you go to the supermarket or some junk food place. Also, having a healthy granola or protein bar in your handbag will keep you from indulging on unhealthy chocolate or other stuff when the sudden hunger appears while you’re out and about.
5. DRINK HOT LEMON WATER RIGHT AFTER WAKING UP
This is something I’m not good at. YET! I always seem to forget about it, but drinking lemon water after waking up is supposed to boost your metabolism, wake you up and helps your immune system. So it’s perfect for the colder season! You only have to put some fresh lemon juice into a mug of hot water and drink it first thing in the morning. If you’re feeling fancy you can also add some ginger or cinnamon.. yummy! Sounds so easy but is really hard to keep up with (at least for me).
